What additional costs will I pay when buying in Bodrum
Both the buyer and vendor pay 3% commission to the Estate Agent. In addition there is a goverment tax of about 4% payable upon completion, and legal fees of around £500 - £2000 (although this will be dependent upon the complexity of the sale and whether the Estate Agent assists in the process( which will help to lower costs)).
As it isn't always possible for clients to be present at the TAPU (government Deeds Office) it may be neccessary to appoint a power of attorney to buy the property on your behalf (this can either be the Agent, the solicitor or some other trusted person). The easiest way to set up the power of attorney is to go to a Notary whilst in Bodrum. This process will cost in the region of 130 Milyon Tl (which includes a fee for a translator if you don't speak Turkish). However appointing a power of attorney can also be achieved by visiting the Turkish Consulate in London
